In our first men’s group meeting this past Thursday, we went over a number of things, one being Portia Nelson’s autobiography in 5 short chapters.
.
If you were to write an autobiography what would you say? By definition, an autobiography is “an account of somebody’s life written by that person.”
.
Years ago I came across Portia Nelson’s autobiography and discovered that I’m in it! Interesting. How can I be in someone else’s autobiography I’ve never met? Go ahead. Take the challenge and see if you can find yourself in one or more of her life’s five chapters!

AUTOBIOGRAPHY IN FIVE SHORT CHAPTERS by Portia Nelson
.
Chapter 1: I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am lost ... I am helpless. It isn’t my fault. It takes me forever to find a way out.
.
Chapter 1I: I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don’t see it. I fall in again. I can’t believe I am in the same place but, it isn’t my fault. It still takes a long time to get out.
.
Chapter 1II: I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it is there. I still fall in ... it’s a habit. My eyes are open. I know where I am. It is my fault. I get out immediately.
.
Chapter 1V: I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it.
.
Chapter V: I walk down another street.
