Supporting Scripture:

"Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.  I Timothy 4:12"

Purpose:

This ministry exists to help teenagers grow spiritually by providing spiritual, educational, social, and service-oriented activities. Every month we provide opportunities for our teens to meet these five different purposes:

  • Ministry: Every month there is at least one organized service project. Worship: We organize weekly worship opportunities in Yahweh Cafe geared to teens.
  • Fellowship: We provide weekly fellowship opportunities through our Teen LIFE Groups.
  • Evangelism: Every month we provide an activity that will be appropriate to bring visitors with the intention of reaching them for Christ.
  • Spiritual Growth:In addition to the above activities, our teens are encouraged in the spiritual habits of Bible reading and prayer.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain effective communications with teens and their parents via a monthly teen calendar and the church bulletin.
  • Oversee teen LIFE Groups on Sunday evenings.
  • Coordinate trips to teen events.
    • Send teen leaders to Youth Advance each spring. Oversee the selection process.
    • Take teens to Winterfest in Gatlinburg, TN.
    • Cooperate with other churches to coordinate a trip each spring to a variety of our Christian colleges.
    • Generate interest in the Manatawny youth retreats and provide transportation.
  • Select and orient the summer youth intern.
  • Organize two mission trips each summer.
    • Choose destinations each fall for the following summer.
    • Assemble a team of teens through an interview process.
    • Find adults who will drive and chaperone.
    • Prepare the VBS curriculum with the assistance of the intern.
  • Honor our high school graduates with an engraved Bible and celebratory meal.
  • Maintain a core of adult and young adult youth workers, involving the parents as much as possible.
  • Coordinate a Pitman Youth Retreat for our teens.

Note:

This ministry is important because it is part of the Great Commission. All of us that work with our teens have an opportunity to help teach a teen Gods' Word. The youth workers and I are blessed to work in a ministry where we can watch teens grow phyiscally and, more importantly, spiritually. We as a church family must take an interest in our teens and give them a spiritual foundation before the world tries to lure them away from the truth. We are blessed to have elders, ministers, and adult workers who are commited to our youth group. It is a blessing when our leaders are willing to participate in our youth activities. Our main objective is that our teens develop their own faith and become leaders in the church. Our teens are the church of today and the leaders of tomorrow.
