Grounds

Supporting Scripture:

"Therefore the Lord God sent him out from the Garden of Eden to cultivate the ground from which he was taken.   Genesis 3:23 "

Purpose:

This ministry coordinates the care and maintenance of the grounds. We recognize that many people receive their first or only impression about the church by glancing at the grounds as they drive by. Therefore, this deacon is in charge of first impressions.

This deacon works closely with Building Maintenance in the planning of workdays.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the maintenance of the church grounds.
  • Provide for regular lawn cutting services.
  • Plant bushes and flowers to beautify the grounds.
  • Maintain the sprinkler system.
  • Maintain the parking lot and sidewalks
  • Arrange for prompt snow/ice removal from all sidewalks before our church activities and non-church activities (wedding rehearsals, weddings, etc.). Stay informed about the schedules for these activities, especially during the winter months.
  • Maintain the handicap ramp for wheelchair access into our building.
  • Maintain the outside lighting, keeping the timers correctly adjusted.
  • Provide appropriate handrails for our safety, security and convenience.
  • Plan workdays twice each year.

Note:

I believe that the grounds are an important part of our church facility. It is the first thing that visitors see as they approach the building. It makes a first impression and shows that we maintain what God has put into our care. If the yard is attractive and neat, visitors form a positive impression before they even walk through our doors.

The whole congregation can help to keep the grounds in good shape. Children can be careful where they play. Adults and teens can help on assigned workdays, or volunteer to trim bushes, weed flowerbeds, mulch, and shovel snow as needed. And all members can make a special effort to throw trash away in the correct containers.

I look forward to supervising the task that God and the elders have set before me.
