Purpose:

This ministry exists to assist the deacon over Caring and Sharing in his ministry to our church members who have financial needs. Initially, all financial needs and concerns should be directed to the deacon who oversees Caring and Sharing (currently, Kareem Rutledge). However, when our Deacon responsible for Caring and Sharing receives a request for assistance that totals over $500, he will refer the request to the financial consultant.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain a heart of compassion for those who have financial needs. Pray with those in distress.
• Maintain healthy boundaries. Do not assist others out of your personal means. Instead, when members have great needs, share your concerns with the elders.
• Seek opportunities to improve your counseling skills.
  • Attend seminars.
  • Read Biblically-based books.
  • Confer with Christians in other congregations who handle financial needs, visiting with them when that would be helpful.
• Develop and rely on a set of Biblical budgeting principles.

Note:

We have been members of the Pitman Church of Christ since 2002 and we cannot over-emphasize how important this church has been to our family. We have grown substantially in our faith and our understanding of God's will for us. We enjoy the fellowship this church provides and we have developed many deep and lasting relationships. We are delighted to be members of a church that has so many outreach and service programs. We are also impressed that the church is so open with how funds are budgeted and spent.

 I agreed to serve as a Financial Consultant for the church because I have always had a keen interest in "money matters." I am a financial analyst for a large company by profession. I also feel the need to share some insights that I have gained over the years to help families improve their lives. Many people struggle with financial difficulties that can result in anxiety and family strife situations that are hardly conducive to spiritual growth. It is my hope that helping families improve their money management skills will also lead them to a deeper relationship with God.
