Supporting Scripture:

"So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas."Put this money to work," he said, "until I come back." The first one came and said, "Sir, your mina has earned ten more. Well done, my good servant! his master replied."  Luke 19:13, 16-17 "

Purpose:

This ministry exists to oversee the monies contributed to the church: counting and depositing the collection, and using other monetary gifts and contributions. The deacon in charge, with the input of other ministry leaders, monitors the financial plan of the congregation. He recommends the most expedient and workable solutions for paying any outstanding debts and increasing weekly cash flow.

General Description:

Those in this area is responsible for soliciting input from each deacon to determine budget needs, at least one month prior to the beginning of the new fiscal year. They also develops funding possibilities for possible church expansion (loans, grants, bonds) or any capital expenses.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all collections and contributions.
  • Oversee the counting and depositing of the weekly contributions.
  • Monitor all disbursements.
  • Work with our administrative assistant to pay the church's bills.
  • Reimburse members for out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Formulate an annual budget for a fiscal year that spans July 1-June 30.
  • In April and May of each year, solicit input from the deacons and ministry leaders to determine the budgetary needs for their areas of ministry in the coming fiscal year.
  • Present the budget proposal to the elders in June of every year.
  • Present the proposed budget to the congregation in July of each year.
  • Report the spending in each area of service.
  • Prepare written quarterly reports that will update the elders and each deacon of the status of spending in each deacon's respective area(s).
  • Maintain the church's bank accounts.
  • Make certain that all long-term savings are invested prudently.
  • Represent the congregation in financial matters, including insurance arrangements, mortgages, leases, etc.

Note:

This ministry has been very challenging and rewarding to me, as the finance and budget area is so greatly impacted by the church growth and expansion. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with all of the servant-hearted men and women involved in the expansion program as well as those involved in everyday ministry.
