We have seven graduating, highschool seniors this: 5 young women and two young men. This lesson is directed to them, but is still applicable to everyone of all ages. The life lessons that Joseph learned at the young age of 17 are lessons that everyone learns and carries with them their entire life. Particularly that the decisions you make today have long term consequences and that good things happen to bad people, life isn't fair!

  • SEVEN MUDDY DUNKS    May 23 2010
    Speaker: Dan Cooper
So, how would feel if you had everything going for you...education, career, finances, family; then you were diagnosed with AIDS? That is what happened with Naaman. He had everything going for him, and then came his diagnosis of leprosy. The treatment plan was unconventional...even absurd. It included Naaman dealing with pride, self-righteousness, anger and self-pity. It included him dunking himself seven times in the Jordan River. Yuck! Actually, it came down to his faith and obedience. What do you need to do to be healed today? And, there is a secondary challenge...will you be a simple servant who will speak a word of hope and tell someone where to find the cleaning?

  • AMERICAN IDOLS    May 16 2010

  • DOES GOD FIX THAT?    May 02 2010
    Speaker: Dan Cooper
We search for god in many places. Would it be nice if it did not take so much work to connect with God? If we could just say, "Hello God," and He would be fine with just a greeting? The blessings of God are bigger than life. God isn't trying to fix us, just to be sure we have a good day today. He is really preparing us for eternity. God is refining us. Did you know that gold does not melt unitl 1102 degrees Celsius?

  • I Will Not Offer God the Cheap Stuff    April 25 2010
    Speaker: Dan Cooper
In this sermon, based on 2 Samuel 24, Dan develops the text from the last chapter of 2 Samuel. Why did David take the census? What was God’s response to the census? How do we see ourselves in comparison to David? David was willing to sacrifice for the wrong he had done and he would not offer God "that which costs me nothing." As our "Friend Day" approaches, what are you willing to sacrifice to get a friend to come to church with you? Why would you not invite a friend to church next Sunday?

  • THERE IS A GOD PART ONE    April 11 2010
    Speaker: Steve Sikes
This is the first of a two-part series looking at Revelation 4 & 5. In this first lesson, the statement: "There is a God" is first seen through an apologetic lens (in defense of), via the work and study of John Clayton. The last half of this lesson concentrates on Revelation 4 and a look at the following: There is a HOLY God; There is a Sovereign God; There is a Faithful God; and next week -- There is A Loving God!

  • TRUST AND OBEY    March 28 2010
    Speaker: Dan Cooper
Gideon, from the Old Testament book of Judges, demonstrates the importance of faith in God (trusting) and obeying Him. Obedience to God means accepting risks. And, God will ask us to do things, at times, that bring hurt and pain. God’s victory does not always look like victory through our eyes, yet we are called to trust and obey. God ultimately brings about the victory through our total obedience. And, our expectations of success are always lower than God’s. Finally, God’s results are greater than we can know.

  • Five Step Leadership Plan    March 21 2010
    Speaker: Dan Cooper
Five Step Leadership Plan Speaker: Dan Cooper Description: The old leader, Moses, was dead. The new guy, Joshua, is taking over. • FORGIVE ME WHEN I WHINE    February 21 2010
    Speaker: Dan Cooper
In spite of numerous wonderful works by God, the Nation of Israel chronically complained. After Moses received the ten commandments at Mt. Sinai, at Israel's first stop, only days after they left Sinai, found the Israel complaining. God had delivered them from 400 years of slavery, given them freedom, yet they complain over and over again. They complain about a lack of food, a lack of water, an absence of meat, their trials, their leaders, and the list goes on and on. What is God's response to them then? What do people complain about today? And, what is His response to us today when we whine, murmur and complain? Finally, what do New Testament passages say to believers today about complaining?

  • MAKING AN ETERNAL DIFFERENCE    February 14 2010
    Speaker: Steve Sikes
This lesson again looks at Jesus as our foundation, God as our builder and us as the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Paul goes on to say that we are God's co-workers and our work is the building material: gold, silver, precious stones, or wood, hay, and straw. What is your foundation? What does your work look like?

  • THEY WERE NOT TEN SUGGESTIONS    January 31 2010
    Speaker: Dan Cooper
Overview: In Exodus 20 we find a record of the 10 commandments that God gave to Moses. In a Duke University speech in 2008, Ted Koppel reminded the graduating seniors that the 10 commandments were indeed commandments, and not 10 suggestions. Indeed, they were foundational rules for how the Israelites were to live life. Foundations, we all need them! We all build on foundations. Dan received the following testimonial two days after preaching the sermon: "I wanted to drop you a line to thank you for your last few sermons, whish helped me to better understand the role of our church leaders. • Strategic Role of Leadership # 2    June 07 2009
    Speaker: Dan Cooper
My two major texts were Matt. 22 (The Great Commandments) and Matt. 28 (The Great Commission). What do strategic leaders need to know? They need to know where they are going. They need to understand the importance of prayer. They need to be aware of whether or not others are following them. Dan briefly explores three strategic leaders from the O. T.: David, Daniel, and Nehemiah; then two strategic leaders from the N. T., Peter and Paul. What is the foundational decision that piovotal church leaders for the 21st century make?

    Speaker: Dan Cooper
This is the first of a three part series from a pivotal chapter in Dan's "Guided Research Paper" for his Master's Degree. In general bigger churches are getting bigger and smaller churches are getting smaller. Why? American are not attending church in the 21st century like they did in the 20th century? How does that fact impact the way leaders need to lead? In the 20th Century Americans wanted this answer from church: "What is truth?" In the 21st Century Americans want this answer from church: "Does it work for me?" What happens when 21st century churches answer 20th century questions? Jesus's most harsh words in the first century were to the religious leaders. Would the same be true if He were to physically come to the earth again today?

  • The Road to Jerusalem    March 30 2008
    Speaker: Steve Sikes
We encounter many road signs as we travel. There are three major road signs that point to the Gospel story: the cross, grave and empty tomb. As one reads through the Book of Acts, these three signs not only mark the way but make up the core of the message. The Good News! Jesus died for our sins; He was buried; He was resurrected and lives in us!

John 17:1-5 Jesus prayed for himself so it is good for us to pray for ourselves.
John 17:6-12 Jesus prayed for the 12, so it is good for us to pray for each other.
John 17:20-26 Jesus prayed for all believers, so it is good for us to pray for all believers.

    2. The Holy Spirit is involved in helping us to become holy
    3. It is possible for us to live a holy life in an unholy world
    4. To be holy we need to break our sinful habits
    5. Holiness involves learning to hate what God hates.
