Pitman Church of Christ | elders

Overseeing a family of 300 is no small task, but our six elders make it look easy! They faithfully fulfill God's command to oversee the flock. To do this, they meet each week, investing many hours of prayer and thought on our behalf. We honor them for their commitment to follow Jesus, their reliance on God, their knowledge of the Word, and their willingness to serve all of us.

Both Horatio and Jackie work in finance. Horatio works for the Internal Revenue Service, and Jackie is a CPA with the Federal Reserve Bank. Even though the Fentons drive almost an hour to worship with us, they are deeply committed to our church body. They have one college-age son.

Greg Krinks

Greg and Linda grew up and married in western Pennsylvania, where they had been high school sweethearts. After graduating from Temple Dental School and spending two years in the Navy in Albany, Georgia, they returned to the Philadelphia area. They were introduced to the church by their neighbors, Mike and Janet Spokony; and they were baptized into Christ by Ray Bailey of the Collingswood congregation in 1977. They began worshipping with the Pitman church in 1981. Greg was appointed as a deacon in 1985 and worked primarily with our education ministry. He was then ordained as an elder in January 1994. Greg states that he has continued serving as an elder because he wants to serve and encourage the flock.

Greg owns Krinks Dental Care in Paulsboro. Linda, a retired RN, teaches a women's Bible study on Tuesday mornings at the church building, where 25-35 women gather each week. Greg and Linda have three young adult children and two grandchildren--who were born within four days of each other!--all living in Tennessee.

Mike Lazar

Mike was baptized in 1978 at the North Side Church of Christ in Newport News, VA. He has served as an elder and deacon at churches in Painesville, Ohio and Omaha, Nebraska. The Lazar family moved to New Jersey from Nebraska in 1996 when Mike began working for a local nuclear plant. Mike was ordained as a deacon in 1998 and served in our greeters/local evangelism ministry. However, he is also deeply committed to serving the seniors at Parke Place, as well as serving the poor in Camden and Trenton. He was ordained as an elder on March 4, 2007. Mike wants to be known as an elder who cares for the needy.

Mike has a BS in Aerospace Eng, an ME in Engineering Mechanics, and an MS in Computer Science. In addition to his professional licenses, he is also an amateur radio operator. He currently works for an engineering firm in Cherry Hill, and Donna teaches first grade. Their two young adult daughters, Rebekah and Elizabeth (both baptized here), are also active servants.

Larry Point

Larry was introduced to the church by his wife, Fran; and he was baptized into Christ on February 11,1968, by one of our beloved former ministers, Paul Cantrell. Larry says he was drawn to our "doctrinal purity." In 1976 he was appointed to serve as a deacon and worked with our church finances. Larry was chosen to serve as an elder in 1994. He states that he wants to be known as an elder who teaches the Word and loves the flock. Larry is respected as an excellent teacher of the Old Testament.

Larry is an attorney and a partner in Acton, Point and Oandason, LLC, a law firm in Woodstown. He and his wife, Fran, have an adult daughter, Teresa, living in GA with her husband, Matt, and two daughters, Olivia and Rebecca. Our entire church grieved with them when their daughter, Katie, and unborn granddaughter, Prudence, went home to be with the Lord in November, 2006. Larry, Fran, and their son-in-law, James Smith, have since become participants in the fight against pancreatic cancer.

Dwight Thompson

Dwight grew up in a Christian family and was baptized in 1951. He and Mary Lea met at Harding, where he majored in education. After Dwight's graduation, they moved to NJ to help strengthen the churches in this area. Mary Lea then completed her degree in Elementary Education at Glassboro State. They became members of the Pitman congregation in 1969. Dwight began serving as a deacon in 1976, working in the areas of Youth and Worship. He was ordained as an elder on February 19, 1991. Dwight wants our members to think of him as an elder who has time for them because he cares.

Dwight and Mary Lea each earned their Master's Degrees in Education; Dwight also has numerous post-graduate hours. Dwight retired after 36 years of teaching and coaching. He now works part-time for Motor Coach Industries, demonstrating and delivering new charter buses. Because Harding played such an instrumental role in their lives, Dwight serves on Harding's President's Council. In 2007, Dwight was honored as one of Harding's Outstanding Alumni. Mary Lea teaches weekly women's Bible studies on Sunday mornings (our Lavender Ladies group) and Tuesday mornings in Hammonton. Dwight and Mary Lea have two adult children and eight grandchildren, all living in Tennessee and Florida.

Tom began serving as a deacon in 1976 and subsequently worked with Fellowship and Youth. He was ordained as an elder in 1994. Tom wants to be known as an elder who applies Scripture to our everyday lives and who helps people through their struggles.
